Plumbing Installation

Plumbing installation involves three key phases: underground, above-ground rough-in, and finishing. For most homeowners, it is recommended to hire a licensed professional, as improper installation can lead to significant water damage and code violations. In Texas, all residential plumbing work must be performed by a licensed plumber, with limited exemptions for homeowners.

The Three Phases of Plumbing Installation

Underground

This initial stage involves laying the supply and drainage pipes beneath the structure's footprint and connecting them to the municipal sewer or septic system before the foundation is poured.

Above-Ground (Rough-in)

Once the framing is complete but before the drywall is installed, the basic lines, including water supply lines, main drains (which connect to a vertical pipe called the "stack"), and venting systems, are laid out and installed within the walls and floors.

Finishing

This final stage involves setting the actual plumbing fixtures, such as toilets, sinks, bathtubs, showers, and faucets, and connecting them to the rough-in plumbing.
